Apurva Movie Review:
Tara Sutaria impressively sheds her glamorous image to deliver a compelling performance in Apurva. Her portrayal of a woman battling adversity resonates strongly, capturing the audience’s empathy and support as she confronts danger head-on.
The film’s core premise, showcasing a woman’s resilience in confronting unexpected peril, is commendable and serves as a source of inspiration for viewers, particularly women, urging them to face daunting challenges with bravery.
Abhishek Banerjee delivers a powerful performance, supported adequately by Rajpal Yadav, Sumit Galati, and Aaditya Gupta. With a runtime of around 90 minutes, the movie maintains a brisk pace, keeping audiences engaged throughout.
However, Apurva falls short in its predictability, undermining the essence of a survival thriller. The lack of sustained tension and underdeveloped characters, aside from Tara Sutaria’s, detracts from the overall impact. The film’s attempt at exploring the antagonist’s depth remains superficial, while the protagonist’s backstory fails to create the desired impact due to underwhelming writing.
Technically, the music by Vishal Mishra is decent, and Anshuman Mahaley’s cinematography adeptly captures the rugged settings, especially during chase sequences. Despite these technical strengths, the movie’s VFX during the climax appears subpar.
Director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat selects an intriguing premise but falters in delivering the expected thrills. While Tara Sutaria’s standout performance and the film’s central theme elevate its appeal, the lack of intense moments and sharper writing prevent it from reaching its full potential.
Movie Strengths
- Tara Sutaria’s Performance: Tara Sutaria’s portrayal of the protagonist is a standout. Her transformation from her usual glamorous roles to a character-driven, challenging role in Apurva is impressive. Her portrayal of resilience and determination captivates the audience.
- Central Theme of Empowerment: The film’s core theme of showcasing a woman’s strength in battling unforeseen adversities is commendable. It serves as an inspirational narrative, especially for women, encouraging them to confront challenges with courage.
- Pace and Runtime: With a concise runtime of around 90 minutes, the film maintains a brisk pace, keeping the audience engaged throughout. This ensures that the storyline doesn’t drag, sustaining interest from start to finish.
- Technical Craftsmanship: The movie exhibits technical finesse in various aspects. Vishal Mishra’s music is decent and complements the narrative. Anshuman Mahaley’s cinematography effectively captures the rugged settings, especially during action sequences. Additionally, the editing and production values contribute to the overall quality of the film.
- Supporting Cast: While Tara Sutaria shines, the supporting cast, including Abhishek Banerjee, Rajpal Yadav, Sumit Galati, and Aaditya Gupta, delivers impactful performances, contributing to the movie’s strength.
Verdict
In essence, Apurva is a well-intentioned survival thriller that showcases Tara Sutaria’s impressive acting prowess. Despite its strengths, including a strong central theme and concise runtime, the film’s predictability dampens its impact.
While it remains a passable watch, a stronger narrative and increased tension could have elevated it to a more engaging level for audiences.
